0-for-3

Mexican clubs started off Copa Libertadores in good fashion as Chivas, America and Atlas all won home games in the first of six group stage games.

But each club lost in its first trip to South America.

America fell in dramatic fashion to River Plate by 2-1 on Feb. 26 while Chivas lost on Tuesday at Santos of Brazil by 1-0. Atlas completed the trifecta by losing to Boca Juniors 3-0 on Thursday. Atlas actually were down 1-0 in the 81st minute but Rodrigo Palacio and Martin Palermo each scored a goal one minute apart to break the game open.

If it's any consolation to fans of these respective Mexican sides, each game was their toughest in their group so there won't be another giant obstacle like these in their respective paths.

Next week the teams are all back home: Chivas hosts Deportivo Cucuta, Atlas hosts Atletico Maracaibo and America hosts Universidad San Martin.
