History in the making

All the fuss about Barry Bonds breaking records has reminded me how this is a historic season for the league on that count as well.

Right now, Jaime Moreno of DC United is tied with the newly-retired Jason Kreis for the most MLS goals scored in history - 108.

109 may not happen partly because Moreno's time on the field could be limited due to back problems, but then again, all it takes it one late-game penalty kick opportunity for Moreno to break the all-time mark. He already has the one of most penalty kicks scored.

In fact, there are records falling nearly every MLS game day. Every time the New England Revolution's Steve Ralston takes the field, or gets an assist, or Chivas USA's Ante Razov takes a shot, they're augmenting records they already hold. For that matter, Razov is closing in on Moreno and could ultimately hold the record by the end of this year.
